Parents Evening

As you will be aware parent’s evenings will take place on Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th March.  A letter regarding booking an appointment with your child’s class teacher was sent home in book bags this week.  If you have not received a letter and would like to meet with your child’s teacher please contact the school office.  Please ensure your requests for time slots are returned to school by Tuesday 28th February. The crèche will take place in Dolphins class this time and Dolphins parents’ appointments will take place in Mrs Somerville’s office.

Class photographs

If you would like to take the opportunity to buy the class photos which have recently been sent home you can either do this by completing the order form on line or by returning the slip and money to the school office.  Those ordering through the school office should return money to the office by Monday 26th.

The school receives commission on all photos sold and commission last year on the photos sold amounted to £422.

What we’ve been up to…….

This week in EYFS we have begun our Superhero topic. We have been on an adventure with Elliot Jones a midnight superhero. It led us to write lists of what we would need if we too wanted to be a real superhero. Our lists included adjectives where possible to describe the different features i.e. sparkly mask. In order to become real superheroes we created our own capes (these will be coming home soon). In Maths we have been learning to estimate how many people needing saving by our superheroes that had got trapped inside a building. We learnt how to record our estimations using our own representations. We then used the language more and fewer to compare our estimate against the actual number.

Please don’t forget to return the P.E kits and welly boots as your children need these at all times. Can you also get the laundry markers out and rename clothes as sometimes jumpers are difficult to return to the correct child when names have faded!!!

Wow what an amazing start to the term for Year 1 with our Gnome and Juliet Wow workshop to launch our topic this term. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about adjectives and prepositions to describe a garden.

In Maths we have been learning to compare numbers thinking about more or less. The children have been representing the numbers with Dienes to help them.

In PE we have started gymnastics and had a go at forward roles, the tuck position and straddles. We also had great fun with our sponsored bounce and thank you to all who sponsored us.

A brilliant first week back Year 1. We look forward to celebrating Book week next week.

Year 2 were all so eager to come back to school! We were excited to find a tent in our outdoor area and a letter from Andy Smith, a nocturnal animal enthusiast. He has set us the challenge of finding out as much as we can about nocturnal animals. We have learnt so much! We are looking forward to writing down our facts and sending them all to him. In Maths we have sorted shapes and thought about the 2D shapes we see on 3D shapes. In R.E we have begun to think about what matters to us and linking that to what matters to Muslims. In ICT we have researched using the internet, finding out more about nocturnal animals. In Science we have thought about objects in our environments, categorising whether they are living, dead or have never been alive.

Topic grids for each year group have either been sent out or will be sent out in the next few days.  If you require a paper copy of these please let your class teacher know.

Adverse weather arrangements

At this time of year we like to take the opportunity to remind you of the procedures we put in place should we have any adverse winter weather.

If it has been snowing heavily we will do everything we can to make sure the school is open.  If we have had particularly heavy snow the Breakfast Club will not open until 8.15am.  This will enable us to make sure we have enough staff and the school site is safe.  If we have heavy snow we would also request that all children bring in a packed lunch as we may not be able to provide a school dinner.

If any of these measures are put in place we will keep parents informed by putting up to date information on the school website, our facebook page and by Parentmail. As long as we have enough staff and the site is safe the school will be open but if we have to close information will also be advertised on local BBC radio, www.kentclosures.co.uk

Mother’s Day Shop

As some of you are new to our school we thought we would let you know that next Friday 2nd March all the children can come into school in their own clothing in exchange for a small gift for a mum (nan) special person.

The following week the children will then have the opportunity to bring £2 in to school.  During the day they will come into the hall to purchase a gift of their choosing for their special mum or other lady. We let the children choose as they get so excited to think that they have done their very own shopping, we then wrap it, attach a tag & give it to the children to bring home for Mother’s Day.

All this is done by the friends & any Parent or Adult who wishes to help.

Monday 5th March Year 2 will do their shopping from 1.45pm.

Tuesday 6th March Year 1 will do their shopping from 1.45pm.

Wednesday 7th March Reception year will do their shopping from 1.45pm.

We collect all the gifts next week & keep them in the correct years so that everyone has a good choice of items. If items run low we top them up so that no one is left out.

If you feel you’d like to help for a bit of wrapping then please feel free to come along on those days to help . Please sign in at Reception & just head along to the hall from 1.45pm.

Thank you for supporting us and our school.
