What we have been learning …..

EYFS

This week in EYFS we have been exploring the story Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs. Throughout the stories we read the dinosaurs seemed to keep forgetting the rules so in Literacy we wrote our rules to encourage the dinosaurs to do the right thing! In Maths we have been looking at the different coins and

sorted them using our own criteria. We also had our own shops where we could pay for different everyday objects using the correct coins. We have also through our quiet time images thought about what dinosaurs looked like. We have learnt about their eating habits, how big or small they were and how much they weighed!

Year 1

This week in year one we have been exploring another starry story. The children have enjoyed retelling it before being set the challenge to adapt it. They loved coming upwith new ideas of things they would do with their star, although we’re not quite sure it’s possible to play football with a star?! What wonderful imaginations they have! Inmaths we have been practising subtraction by crossing out the amount we are taking

away. We have been encouraging the children to draw the counters and then cross them out to work out the answer. They are really starting to get the hang of this now. We enjoyed finishing our Starry Night art this week by putting a black sillouete over our paintings. They look so effective; make sure you look out for them in the hall soon! The children were also great at evaluating eachother’s work, making sure they said something kind to say as well as giving friendly suggestions for improvement.

Year 2

This week in Year 2 we have continued to be inspired by the story Man on the Moon, a day in the life of Bob. We have written our own version of Alien on the Moon, a day in the life of an alien. We used the story of Bob as the structure of our own story discussing the fun and excitement had by our own creation of an

alien on the moon. In Maths we have started to learn about multiplication, we began recognising and making equal groups then writing the addition and multiplication equations for the representations of equal groups. We have started rehearsing for the Christmas production and are so excited to show it to you soon! Letters for costumes have been given to your child-please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions about this. Thank you to those of you who came to the maths workshops we hope you loved to see your child learn!

Sponsored Walk

Well done to all of the children for taking part in our sponsored walk event this week. All children did so well with a little encouragement. Please send in completed sponsored forms and money; we are busy collating the amounts and will let you know the totals for each class soon. Your support with this is much appreciated and we are looking forward to being able to purchase a wider selection of books for all children.
