What we’ve been up to………

This week in EYFS we have been consolidating our learning after our fantastic trip to Tyland Barn! Whilst on the trip we were introduced to the story ‘Tadpoles promise’ which enabled us to look for tadpoles whilst table top pond dipping, go on a mini-beast hunt, make dinner for a mini-beast and become creative and make the frog lifecycle. We all had a fabulous and tiring day, despite the rain!  The sun did come out for a while though! Now we are back in the classroom each class has selected a mini-beast to focus on for Science week! We have been learning facts about them, been creative and used different materials to make them and have even been using them within our Maths addition work. If you want to find out more don’t forget to come and visit the Science exhibition in the hall on Friday after school!

Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed Science week. We were lucky enough to have creepy crawlies in for us to learn about and see. We thought the leaf insects were beautiful and the snake was so slithery!

In Maths we have been learning about grouping and sharing for division. We have used cubes and players to help us work out calculations as well as the part part whole method.

During RE we had the pleasure of visiting the church and were able to ask lots of questions. We even had the opportunity to walk around and listen to music on the organ!

In History we have been learning about Henry VIII and his wives. We’ve enjoyed learning these facts and were able to write diary entries pretending to be Henry!

Well done for all your efforts with dressing up you all looked bugtastic!

Wow Year 2 what an exciting Science week we have had! We have learnt about different habitats and how animals have adapted to suit the conditions there. We learnt about the different layers of an ocean habitat and creatures that live at different layers, we created a collage to show this. We created a rainforest habitat thinking about the layers and where animals live e.g. birds in the canopy and emergent layer. We learnt about the harsh conditions in the polar regions, discussing how the animals can survive there. In English we have written letters, one to the Queen of Hearts persuading her not to cut off Alice’s head! We have also started to read the story of Narnia, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, gathering reasons as to what we think Lucy should do. Should Lucy carry on going into Narnia? In Maths we have developed our addition knowledge further by learning how to solve calculations that bridge another 10 or even 100. We hope to have a lovely Bank Holiday and enjoy the sunshine! Thank you to those of you who attended the SATs meeting, if you were unable to attend please see the presentation on our website, or speak to your class teacher if you have any questions.

Science week

The children have had an amazing week this week during our Science week, finding out about a range of mini-beasts and wildlife.  The children were so lucky to have two teachers from Towers School visit on Wednesday, allowing the children to explore a range of different mini-beasts. To see some of the learning which has taken place this week do come to our Science exhibition in the hall today from 3-4pm.  A huge thank you to Miss Cossey for organising a fantastic week!

Year 2 SATs meetings

Thank you to year 2 parents who attended the meetings about SATs. We hope the meeting was informative and has reassured you about how the assessment tasks will be administered to ensure that your child is unaware of these being any different to the ‘challenges’ regularly set in class.  If you were unable to attend the meeting, the Powerpoint presentation used will be uploaded onto our website soon.  If you have any other questions or queries please make an appointment to speak to your child’s class teacher.  We do advise you not to speak about these to your child’s class teacher in front of your child as we are trying to be as discrete as possible.

Road Safety Competition

To improve road safety awareness outside the school the School Council have organised a competition. The competition is to design a road safety banner promoting road safety outside the school. The winning design will be made into a banner and put up outside the school and runners up will have their posters put up around the school. The School Council have told the rest of the school about the competition in assembly this week and further information, ideas and examples can be found on the School Council page on the website. The School Council look forward to seeing all the entries and helping to choose a winner. Entries should be in by Friday 18thMay.

The royal wedding celebration

As we are already aware school budgets are increasingly tight and there are a number of things that each year group would like to purchase to support them in making transition week (this is when we undertake a week of activities to support your child in thinking about moving up the next year group) a real success!

We therefore thought that we would combine a fundraising event with the Royal Wedding celebrations!

During the week of the 14thMay your child has an opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket – 50p per ticket. Please send in money in an envelope if you would like to buy a ticket.  At the end of the week (Friday 18thMay) each year group will pull out a raffle ticket and the year group winners will win 6 red, white and blue cup cakes (made by our amazing cook Megan) to eat while watching the Royal Wedding on Saturday 19thMay.

Also on Friday 18thMay for a donation of £1 send your child into school in patriotic colours red, white and blue so that we can all get ready to celebrate in style!
