The Downs View Governing Board meets regularly at the school. We work with the Headteacher and staff to deliver the Key priorities identified in the School Plan. I have been asked to let you know after each meeting about how we are working to improve the school.
Tracy Kent, the Headteacher reports to the meeting on what the school has achieved since the previous meeting, If you would like more information about Downs View Governors, please visit our page on the website.
Paul Baker has been elected as a Parent Governor and Elizabeth (Elle) Picton is to become a Co-opted Governor. We now have a full governing board.
Governors carried out a Health and Safety Inspection of the site and we are working with KCC to improve the fences around the school. We noted that the boiler needs to be replaced but given that it is working and we cannot be without heat, it was agreed to postpone the work to replace it in the summer. Governors helped the office complete an Asset register.
Governors welcome the SEF to see at a glance if the school is on track to deliver key priorities by the end of the academic year. Governors also noted persistent absentees had increased and the HT reported that letters were being sent to parents to explain the importance of attendance. Governors continue make monitoring visits which are fed back to the Board. The Chair of Governors with the Jenny Jones, the Kent School Improvement Partner, has conducted a learning walk in Year 1 and attended a review of Downs View with external headteachers.
All governors have undergone Safeguarding training and the Chair has attended safe recruitment training. A new governor skills audit has been developed and we are working on subject audits with middle leaders.
We discussed the school budget and we support the idea of a Just Giving page and suggested collecting old one pound coins which are no longer acceptable in shops but can be banked. It was agreed that the school would make savings to ensure that we remain on budget.
The Governing Board have reviewed and agreed the following policies: EYFS, SEND, Child Protection and Online Safeguarding, Attendance, Home School Agreement, Well Being, Discipline and complaints, Governor Allowances, Freedom of Information (FoI), and Music.
