Stanley Baker Studios will be in school on Tuesday 27th September to take individual photographs of the children. If you have any younger siblings or children at the Junior School you would like included in the photo please come to school hall from 8am. We have informed the Junior School that some siblings may arrive slightly late. Breakfast Club will be in the hall from 8am so parents should enter through the far end door of the hall at the side of the school for the photographer.

What we’ve been up to…..

This week in EYFS we have all been really proud of the children. They have coped extremely well at lunch time and many have enjoyed finding their brothers and sisters on the big playground after they have eaten their dinner! We have been thinking a lot about our class animal this week and have been asking each other questions and have used the internet safely to find out the answers to some of the stranger questions we have had! We have also enjoyed reciting counting rhymes in small groups. Just a little reminder the weather is beginning to turn so if you have not bought in a pair of welly boots to leave at school please could you bring these in as soon as possible.

In Year 1 this week the children have been exploring the story of The Little Mermaid. They have been learning about the setting of the story and have described this using adjectives. At the beginning of the week the children were able to feel objects that they would find in the sea and described them. We used all the adjectives that we had generated to write fantastic sentences. In Maths the children have been looking at numbers and comparing them thinking about whether they are more or less. They have also learnt how to write the numbers 1- 10 in words

Year 2 have enjoyed exploring instructions in English. We have looked at the features we need and had a go at writing our own for making a fruit salad. In Maths we have been learning about where numbers are situated on a number line, by estimating where they should be thinking about our knowledge of place value. In Design and Technology we experimented with different tools to understand how they can be used safely ready for creating our own fruit salad. We enjoyed listening to each other’s unique traits in RE, by discussing how we are special. Another amazing week year 2, keep up the hard work!

Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning (and Afternoon)

On Thursday 29th we will be holding coffee morning and afternoon to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. Please join us for coffee and cake at either 9am – 10am or 2pm – 3pm in the mobile. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and welcome our new parents whilst raising money for a good cause. If you would like to make a donation of a cake or cakes, these would be greatly received. Please bring these to Puppies before school. For more details please see Sam our FLO.

Fire alarm

Your child may have said to you on Wednesday our fire alarm went off without warning and the children were led to the field as per our fire drill policy. The children behaved very well, following instructions from their adult and walking out calmly and quietly. Luckily the alarm proved to be a false alarm and the building was declared safe shortly afterwards.

Happy Birthday Downs View!

Downs View has been open for 40 years so to celebrate this we will be having a week of activities to mark the occasion, including burying a time capsule, going back to the 70’s and inviting in ex-pupils/staff to share their memories. We will have a tea party and exhibition of old photographs and work completed during this week. We have some staff and partners of staff who were the first pupils to attend the school in 1976! If you used to attend the school or know anybody who used to attend/ work here, please ask them if they would be able to come in during this week or send in their memories. Further details will follow soon. If you have any ideas, please let us know!

P.E shorts

We have new pairs of P.E. shorts for sale in the school office for £1 a pair.

Safety on the playground after school

Whilst we allow your children to play on the playground after school, please can we remind you to supervise your children at all times. Children should not be allowed to climb trees or run around with sticks. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter for the safety of your child(ren) and others.

Our new- look website

Our website has been transformed and is being regularly updated. All newsletters and other letters sent home will be put on the website as well as evaluations of key events within the school. We hope you enjoy exploring it!

Parents Evening

Parents evening will take place during the afternoon and evening of Thursday 20th October. Letters will be sent out next week with time slots for booking appointments.

Are you interested in learning about your child’s behaviour?

A Solihull course will be delivered on Tuesday 4th October to the 6th December, 9am – 11am in the school mobile. The course aims to promote and encourage effective parenting, provide parents/carers with a strategy to repair situations when things go wrong, increase confidence and self-esteem in both parent and child, increase parents understanding of the different stages of development and learning. It will explore feelings, parenting styles, communication, sleep and anger and developmental needs. The programme is open to all parents/carers with children aged 0-16 yrs.

For more information or to book a place please call Sam Ansell on 07884866105

Project 95 – Attendance

Hopefully many of you would have seen the 95 posters dotted around the school playground. This is to symbolise the new Project 95 at Downs View School. Project 95 focuses on raising attendance with the aim that every child achieves at least 95% attendance. Anyone whose attendance is below 95% will be contacted and supported to raise the attendance of their child/children to at least 95%.

To discuss further, please contact Sam Ansell on 07884866105

School cardigans

Some people are waiting for delivery of school cardigans. Kmac are unable to obtain some sizes of cardigan from the Trutex supplier but have provided the school office with an alternative. If you would like to see the new cardigan it is available in the school office. There appears to be very little colour difference.
