Attendance

The School Day

Our school day begins at 8.40am, with the doors opening at 8.30am to allow children time to arrive and settle in. The school day finishes at 3.10pm.

If your child arrives after 8.40am, please come to the school office to sign them in. Children arriving after this time will be recorded as late. If your child arrives after 9.10am, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

If your child is late and requires a school dinner, please let the office know, as meal numbers are confirmed shortly after the start of the day.

 Illness / Appointments

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness or a medical appointment, please let us know before 8.40am. You can do this by sending a message via Parentmail or by leaving a message on the dedicated absence line.

If you would like to speak to someone about your child’s absence, please contact the main school office.

For safeguarding reasons, it is very important that we know where every child is. If we have not heard from you, we will contact you to check your child is safe.

If your child will be arriving late after an appointment, please let us know their expected arrival time and whether they will need a school dinner, as meal numbers are finalised by 9.20am.

Monitoring Attendance

We regularly monitor attendance in partnership with the Local Authority to ensure all children are attending school as often as possible.

If your child’s attendance begins to cause concern, we will contact you to offer support. The Education Welfare Officer may also become involved if attendance falls below 97%.

Holiday/Leave of absence from school

Government guidance means that schools are unable to authorise leave during term time for holidays or family events.

If a child is taken out of school for five or more days within a 100-day period, this could result in a Penalty Notice being issued.

If you need to request time off for your child for reasons other than illness, please complete a Leave of Absence Request Form, available from the school office.
