In Personal Social and Emotional Development, we read the story ‘I don’t want to wash my hands’ to begin our discussions on why it’s important to wash our hands carefully and throughout the day. We learnt the following routine

  2. Get enough soap to cover your hands.
  3. Rub your hands together.
  4. Use 1 hand to rub the back of the other hand and clean in between your fingers.
  5. Rub your hands together and clean in between your fingers.
  6. Rub the back of your fingers against your palms.
  7. Rub your thumb using your other hand.
  8. Rub the tips of your fingers on the palm of your other hand. Do the same with other hand.
  9. Rinse your hands with water.
  10. Dry your hands completely with the paper towel.

In Physical Development we have been working hard to improve our fine motor skills! We have been writing the graphemes in sand, using tweezers to pick up pom poms, threading beads onto string and modelling with Play Doh.

In Literacy we have enjoyed reading the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. After reading the story we learnt how to make tea and even had a little taste!

In Maths we have been learning about numbers 1-3 and have been beginning to learn how to subitise numbers without counting them. We have been grouping and organising objects and have become very skilled at spotting groups which have the same amounts. We have learnt lots of new maths words such as more, less, fewer, most and least.

We have explored maths through stories too these included ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ and ‘Dear Zoo’, and many more!

This Expressive Arts and Design we having being learning to make marks for meaning. We have been creating patterns, lines and shapes. We found out that different materials can be used in different ways to create different effects and that you can make the marks lighter and darker if you apply more or less pressure. We have also been drawing pictures of our families and then made pictures of our families using pebbles to make the body shapes.

In Understanding the World, we have been learning about the seasons. This term we have focused on Autumn and enjoyed going on a walk. Whilst on the walk we found leaves, conkers and even acorns which we bought back to the classroom to describe! We also discussed how these things will change throughout the seasons, and look forward to finding some different things when we go on a winter walk later in the year.

In Religious Education we have been exploring the question ‘Which people are special and why?’. We have talked about people who are special to them, what makes their family and friends special to them and identified some of the qualities of a good friend. We have also read stories about special people within different religions.
