Term 2 Highlights

In Personal Social and Emotional Development, we read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ to begin our discussions on emotions. We showed different emotion faces according to do different scenarios and thought about when we feel happy, sad, calm, angry and scared. In ID (Investigation and Discovery time) we created our own colour monsters to show how we were feeling.

In Physical Development we have enjoyed making different shapes with our bodies to represent different jungle animals. We tried hard to move around the room like our chosen animals and show moment of stillness. We had to use control and co-ordination to make sure that we didn’t wobble and fall!

In Literacy we have enjoyed retelling the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood. After reading the story we took our learning outside. We created an obstacle course to role play getting a basket of food to Grandma’s house just like Little Red Riding Hood did in the story. We also wrote our own shopping lists so that Grandma had everything she needed.

In Maths we have begun exploring the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’ by investigating our own bodies and familiar toys to understand that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts. We then transferred this knowledge into composing and de-composing numbers i.e. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2.

In Expressive Arts and Design we having being learning to create paper chains. Whilst making them we explored different materials that can be used to join the paper together (Sellotape, glue and Blue Tac) to work out which material fixed the paper chain most effectively.

In Music we have been listening to the lyrics and melody of different pieces of music that tell stories i.e. Peter and the Wolf, The Sleeping Princess. We followed instructions to move to the music, added percussion instruments and then changed our movements to reflect the tempo, pitch and dynamic of the music.

In Understanding the World, we have been learning about our local community. We found out that there are many special people and places within the community including the church, library emergency services and food banks. We looked at where these places are and what the people within these places do to help everyone.

In Religious Education we were fortunate enough to visit our local church ‘St Mary’s’. Whilst we were there we learnt the correct names for the different features of the church. We met Reverend Dawn and listened to a story from the Bible ‘The Calming of the Storm’. We have also shared stories that are special to Muslims including ‘The First Revelation’.
