Term 2 Highlights 2023 - 2024
PSED Term 2
In Personal Social and Emotional Development, we read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ to begin our discussions on emotions. We showed different emotion faces according to do different scenarios and thought about when we feel happy, sad, calm, angry and scared. In ID (Investigation and Discovery time) we created our own colour monsters to show how we were feeling. We were also lucky to have a visit from David Tricks who reminded us of the road safety rules through an interactive magic show!
Physical Development Term 2
In Physical Development we have continued perfecting our fine motor skills by taking part in a variety of ‘Wiggle Time’ activities which have involved writing with feathers and building towers using a cut-up foam noodle (as our bricks) and shaving foam (as our cement. We have also enjoyed making different shapes with our bodies to represent different jungle animals. We tried hard to move around the room like our chosen animals and show moment of stillness. We had to use control and co-ordination to make sure that we didn’t wobble and fall!
Literacy Term 2
In Literacy we have enjoyed retelling a variety of stories including ‘Owl Babies’ ‘Brown Bear’ and ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. After reading the stories we retold them orally, acted them out using small world props and used our phonic knowledge to write speech bubbles, labels and sentences i.e. I can see a red bird.
Maths Term 2
In Maths we have begun exploring the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’ by investigating our own bodies and familiar toys to understand that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts. We then transferred this knowledge into composing and de-composing numbers i.e. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2. We also enjoyed creating our own Numberblocks through cutting and sticking and printing with cubes and paint.
Understanding the World Term 2
In Understanding the World, we have been learning about our local community. We found out that there are many special people and places within the community including the church, library emergency services and food banks. We looked at where these places are and what the people within these places do to help everyone. We also made poppies for the 11th November as a reminder of the sacrifices made by people in the times of war.
Religious Education Term 2
In Religious Education we have been listening to a variety of stories from the Bible including ‘David and Goliath’ and ‘The Calming of the Storm’. We have also shared stories that are special to Muslims including ‘The First Revelation’.
